Blingin' My Boots

Found an already pretty great pair of Dirty Laundry boots on the sale rack at Off Broadway Shoes.  Shiny, shiny champagne!  Loved everything about them except the fugly standard issue hiking boot laces.  (Uh, what were they thinking with this 'Prada Meets Prairie' pastiche?!)

So I swapped out the lackluster laces with ribbons and added a charm.  Check out the side by side before and after pic.  $10 upgrade.  

Now I lurrrrrrv them! 

 

Bad Blogger. Bad.

I keep falling off the blogging bandwagon.  Which doesn't halt the world's spinning on its axis or anything, I realize.  (Um, what an awesome ego stroke it would be if that were the case.  Except for the fact that we'd all likely die.) 

Anyway, I will try to be more consistent with the blogging, since it's good practice for....being more consistent.

In my defense, I've been busy with the usual.  The freelance writing. The mom-ing.  And I've launched a new venture, hawking my wares on Etsy!  A few random items are featured to the right, or just follow this link.

Crafty Coup du Jour

I will always, always, always be dazzled by the power of paint.  Particularly how a mere coat (or two) of the stuff can transform something fugly into something groovy.

So, there's just never enough storage space in life, is there?  With that in mind, I found this great trunk at Ross.  Er.....maybe "great" is overstating things just a tad....... 

But I liked the bones of it, and it was only $19.99, and bearing in mind that whole "transformational power of paint" thing, I knew I couldn't possibly do worse than the original manufacturer had.  No, the bar wasn't raised particularly high here - silver trim and silver accents (some infused with a bonus round of GREEN highlights) juxtaposed with brass fixtures?  Tan and black panels forced to co-exist?  At first sight, it did make me throw up in my mouth just a little bit.  Maybe for someone out there, it would indeed be the missing link in his or her Dracula-does-Little-House-on-the-Prairie design scheme.  Just not mine.

However - voila!  $5 worth of paint has resulted in a gosh darn good makeover, yes?

I like to think that the red one is a direction Liberace might have headed in if he felt like dabbling in goth.  It's very Morticia-in-Vegas, don't you think?

The blue one is just....blue.  With stars. I dig the black-and-blue bruise-y hues.
